George L. Bader, Sr., age 85 of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 18, 2015, at Wilmington Hospital with his loving wife and family by his side.

Born on May 4, 1930 in Wilmington, George attended St. Patrick’s Elementary School. George was a proud graduate of Salesianum High School class of 1948. He served in the US Army Korean Conflict, Fairbanks, Alaska, Communication Intelligence. George was a master carpenter; he completed his apprenticeship in 1955 and enjoyed a long career with Local Union 626. George loved spending time calling his dear family and friends just to keep in touch. He was a ready advocate for anyone in need. George’s devotion to the Blessed Mother Mary and his Catholic faith sustained him throughout his life. His greatest joy was his family, the love he shared with his wife Lucille in the home they built together. George was preceded in death by his parents Edward L. and Agnes (Snyder) Bader, as well as, George J. and Elizabeth (McClintock) Bader; his son Michael Bader; his brothers Edward L. Bader, Jr. and W. Preston Bader and his sister Carolyn Sutton.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lucille (Malizia) Bader, children Judith Pelkey (Larry), George L. Bader, Jr. (Natalie), Mark Bader (Alicia), Nancy McMenamin (John), Matthew Bader (Deborah), Jeffrey Bader (Sherry) and Luanne Cotrotsios (Henry); 22 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

In addition, George is survived by his brothers Alfred Bader, Carl Bader, and sisters Regina O’Brian and Dorothy Mazick (Michael). He is also survived by sisters Patricia Goble (Farrell) and Christine Bader (Ray Dunton); brother-in-law Kenneth Sutton; and many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Helena’s Church, 602 Philadelphia Pike in Wilmington, on Friday, September 25, 2015 at 11am. Interment will follow in Cathedral Cemetery. Family and friends may call at Brandywine Valley Funeral Care, 412 Philadelphia Pike, Wilmington, on Thursday, September 24 from 6-8pm and again on Friday morning prior to Mass from 9-10am.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to St. Helena’s Church, 602 Philadelphia Pike, Wilmington, DE 19809.
