Virginia T. Zwickert Urff, 90, a long-term resident of Holly Oak, Delaware, died of natural causes at Gilpin Hall in Wilmington on Wednesday, December 27, 2017.
Virginia was born in the Bronx, NY, on August 26, 1927. She married William P. Zwickert in 1947. After living in Glen Oaks, Long Island, NY, the family moved to Wilmington in 1953. She worked for the Wilmington Suburban Water Company for over 30 years as a billing analyst and was a member of St. Helena’s Catholic Church. In 1984, Virginia married Charles A.Urff, a Marine Corp veteran and retired New York City police officer whom she had known since high school. They enjoyed eleven years together before his death in 1995.
She is survived by two of her three children, William P. Zwickert, Jr. of New Braunfels, TX and Stephen J. Zwickert of Mount Pleasant, SC; and grandchildren, Kathleen M. Zwickert Okumura, Stephanie M. Zwickert Baxter, Elizabeth M. Zwickert Timmermans, Peter C. Zwickert, Stephen P. Williams, Jr. (son of daughter, Rosemary Zwickert Williams, deceased); and four great grand-children.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Helena’s Catholic Church, 602 Philadelphia Pike, Wilmington, DE 19809 at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 12, 2018, with visitation at the church at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE 19701.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.
