Alden D. Josey passed away February 4, 2022. Alden resided in Wilmington, DE.
Dear Alexandra and Melissa,
I so profoundly appreciated, respected, and for awhile interacted with your father, Alden Josey. It was just yesterday that I came upon his obituary and realized of his passing. Profoundly moved, I am compelled to write at least briefly.
I first met your dad at the Zurich Institute when he taught there in the early 1990s. We subsequently communicated, and on behalf of the Maine Jung Center, I invited him to lecture in Brunswick, ME. He stayed with my wife and me, and all of us had a spectacular time. (I spent much of my childhood in Stanton, DE, and across the state line in Landenberg, PA; and we shared stories and ideas about that area and about our work as Jungian Analysts, and about our different backgrounds, his in Chemistry and mine in Law and Education. I don’t think we met your mom, but we heard plenty about her and about both of you. I’m vague about whether I looked him up once when I was visiting my mom in Delaware. I’m almost certain that we talked by phone, but I can’t recall if we met.
Your dad was one my favorite teachers during my 4 years in Zurich; and he gave two knockout performances here in Maine over the years. It was such a privilege to hear him speak and to sit and chat with him for hours. One other thing we shared was our Quaker spirituality. Kathy and I attend Portland Friends Meeting here in Maine, and it is a huge part of our lives.
I can only imagine how much you must miss him, even as you have celebrated his long, wonderful, loving and beloved life.
My thoughts, prayers, and good wishes flow to both of you.
With much gratitude,
