Sally A. Holden
Sally A. Holden of Wilmington, DE passed away peacefully on July 27, 2026, at the age of 82. Born in Chester, PA, Sally spent most of her life in Boothwyn, Pennsylvania. She was the son of Thomas and Sara (Whitby) Holden. Sally was predeceased by her parents.
Sally was a graduate of Chichester High School. She enjoyed her career working in retail as a buyer and a manager, and, interacting with customers who often became friends. Sally loved laughing and telling stories with family and friends.
Sally was devoted to her family and loved spending time with them. She has been called “the ultimate grandmother”, as she was a doting grandmom not only to her grandchildren and great grandchildren, but also to the young children in her neighborhood.
Surviving Sally is her son, John Holden (Beth) of Wilmington DE and daughter Denise Bruce (Andrew) of Newark. She will be dearly missed by her grandchildren, Adrienne Bruce, Andrew Bruce and Wyatt Holden, and by great grandchildren Andrew Bruce, Vincent Bruce and Ari Bruce.
Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
I am so very sorry to hear about the passing of Sally. Her Mom, Polly, was my Mom’s first cousin. I remember many fun times at the Holden house. I would see Sally at the Farmers Market and we would catch up on our busy lives. She was the sweetest!! My condolences to all that loved her. R.I.P., Sally 🙏

My Beloved Aunt Sally ❤️
My heart is heavy saying goodbye to my beloved Aunt Sally. She was one of those truly special people who could light up a room with her spirit, her laughter, her stories, and that wonderful sense of fun that made being around her such a joy.
Aunt Sally had a way of making people feel welcome and loved. She was spirited, funny, warm, and full of life. She treasured her family, and it was so clear how much happiness her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all the little ones around her brought her, she was an incredible aunt as well.
I can’t help but smile thinking about her now. I like to imagine that she has already found her way up to Heaven, reunited with her beloved sister, Norma Jean Carliss and my father Ernest A. Carliss II. I can picture the them together again—laughing, dancing, telling stories, having a few good laughs with Red Man and Polly, and probably getting into a little trouble just like old times. ❤️
While we will miss Aunt Sally terribly, I hope we can celebrate the wonderful life she lived and all the laughter and memories she gave us. She leaves behind so much love, and that love will continue through her family and everyone fortunate enough to have known her.
Rest peacefully, Aunt Sally.
You will always be loved, always be remembered, and always have a special place in my heart. ❤️🙏
My heart has been very heavy. You have been there every important part of my life. I wish I could have one more conversation, one more laugh, one more chance to tell her how much she meant to me. But I will carry her with me—in my heart, in my memories, and in the stories we tell about her.
